Looks like that misleading documentation was a (bad) community contribution

my best guess is that it was correct when it was published and became incorrect later

i have a less charitable impression of it 😅 i'm pretty sure unreal has had proper csv file parsing utilities for longer than that community tutorials section has existed

ok it was driving me nuts so i checked UE 4.22 (oldest version i have installed at the moment) and sure enough it has FCsvParser lol

i mean yes FCsvParser also exists but the code that the tutorial used was explicitly changed in 4.5 for this, the bug report was TTP#343109 FString::ParseIntoArray() did, for a period of time between 4.5 and ???, ignore commas inside of quotes, and now doesn't

ah i didn't see this. i thought you were just talking about the csv reading part of it. the tutorial you linked in the blog post is only a couple years old, which is why i feel a lot less forgiving of it.

the part i take more issue with is how the tutorial writes a lot of brittle code when there's a more robust solution that's been shipping in the engine for ages.
