I wish WB would’ve had the smarts & decency to buy her out of the HP franchise no matter the cost. Alongside DC it is arguably their biggest moneymaker and it’s such a coincidence that as soon as she got personally involved in making the movies, they started dipping in quality.

What's your context cuz in reality yes and no there's a spectrum, is life more important than Harry Potter Yes but if you're asking don't read watch or play caz you think it'll save a life or just caz you specifically don't like the author, then no especially since You're not in any danger

Here's an inconvenient truth: you're helping nobody by playing pedantics we get mad at people playing Hogfarts Shartacy because she is LITERALLY USING THAT MONEY TO FUND TRANS GENOCIDE. there's no middle ground on this one sorry!!

Like the Hogwarts legacy incident really shined a light on how immature and narrow-minded some of your group and allies are, cuz when your group forced a bad ultimatum you ended up being against people who under normal circumstances generally supported you'll

She actively uses the money from Harry Potter to fund anti-trans legislations. Paying for Harry Potter stuff is, at this point, harming trans people.

true, sadly too many people don't care about the trans community as much as they should. But their validation isn't measured by these people. And more reason for those that do care to offer a helping hand and support when needed.

It isn't. Any consumption of that media supports it, and supports her, even if it's not monetary. All you're doing is telling people your nostalgia and your fandom is more important than trans people's safety. There is no grey area anymore.

Transphobia (ANY hate) wants to be "justified" (in the eyes of the hater) so it can hide itself. Ever told a transphobe they are one? Did they say: "I'm not one, I just [attempted justification]"? Self-destruction is WONDERFUL for that! Just blame the destruction on your object of hate and voilà.

She might have grown so used to being adulated that during the initial backlash to her transphobic statements, she gravitated toward the much more practiced, conspiratorial bigots who expressed sympathy with her. They gave her the adulation she wanted, and thus she became radicalized. (+)

It does make a lot of sense. Getting a feeling of being supported by someone can give you more reason to keep doing something. On this case it was bad support and this led her to doing even worse then she already was. It's a good theory and one that sounds logical.

Man this is a very messy situation of course trans lives over Harry Potter. I was always of the mind that art should be separated from artist, but that's hard right now since the artist is using profits from the art to do harm.

I'm not big on separate art from artist. There's some great music, art, etc, from bad people, but I also don't wanna associate with or support that artist or their fans. Like, I've heard Kanye has some good songs, but I can't listen to them because it'd support him, you get me?

I can get that. There are work around for some stuff like that, so if you can... find a work around... if not then wait until there's a way (sometimes that is never and it sucks, so we're left to do nothing).

I would say fans are good as long as they don't financially support the jackass, but that's unlikely. Can you even pirate a book? Even then that spreads interest about the media itself. Maybe if the IP gets in the hands of someone good? But until then the fight must carry on.

I understand the sentiment, but the story is full of so much implicit hatred and bigotry that it's better to just try and force an attitude change. It's ironically healthier to learn hatred for Harry Potter. It's not really something you can salvage, even after Rowling's death.

Also: Harry Potter is incredibly generic and despite Rowling's desperate attempts to pretend otherwise, the Wizarding School genre and the various other tropes and pre-established visual aesthetics she pulled from in designing her setting do not belong to her

I think that that's fine, personally. Ultimately it's entirely about putting money in her pocket. If you do, you're hurting trans people. If you don't, you're fine in my book.

I wish people would stop bringing out the "Oh but Lovecraft fans" argument. Not only has Lovecraft been dead since 1937, he also died broke and most importantly, without using any of his wealth to actively harm groups he deigned worthy of scorn.

Lovecraft is dead and cannot direct a narrative around his work or profit from it. In this case, creating a niche for HP fans to feel good about still cultivating communities for it means that the narrative around HP is just being propped up by these less problematic takes on it. Not fighting it.

There's no such thing as an ethical-fan. Someone making fanart/fanfic/cosplay/etc. Is ultimately keeping the franchise alive. With that, anyone could view their work and be inspired to seek out that franchise. Fan made products still puts money in her pocket, just less directly.

This is a post from someone who was a massive fan. I read all the books multiple times. I watched the films, had the merch, cosplayed, wanted the video game. It was my childhood. The minute I heard about how vile she is, and her views on trans lives, I stopped engaging. It's that easy.

There is no excuse. Cut it out of your lives and grow up. There is no such thing of "ethical-fans." Trans lives matter more than a racist, sexist, transphobic book. As long as she is funding anti-trans policies in our country, then she is scum. (No hate to person I'm replying to)

It's ultimately still prolonging HP's cultural relevance, which isn't as direct as giving it money, but it is perpetuating an audience for it. Ideally, HP will become such an ostracised franchise that it's impossible to market and become solely associated with fascism, as it's bankrolling it.

If we redirect enough attention & make sure they understand that second hand or flying the jolly roger are the correct ways... we could steal the whole fandom away. Then that shriveled corpse wouldn't be relevant to thing they built. That would be hilarious~ I'ma continue not caring about HP tho.

And i'm sure you're trying to work in good faith here but finding a post that says "hey don't engage with HP" and essentially asking "but is it okay to anyway", it feels very much like, prioritising seeking validation from trans folks over anything else.

there's a serious argument that even reading HP fanfic is an issue. SEO matters in modern fandom and as long as you're giving clicks to anything with that name attached, positive support for the series will loudly continue. I GUARANTEE there are other things that can make you feel that way again.

Since I remembered you saying this is also a switch release, apart from rpgs since I usually play those on consoles anyways, this is one reason to buy the switch two :3. Also happy pride, hope the game designing goes well ❤🏳️‍🌈

Is there a version of this image which includes your name or handle? I would love to just have it saved on my phone and be able to use it as a reaction pic - but I don't want to use it without attribution

I've never liked HP so I'm on board and lose nothing from it. But I do know the feeling of loving something a lot, and then the creators of it do something that makes you stop supporting it. Even though is sucks it feels SO much better to just let it go. There are more things in life to enjoy!
