I feel that Android is well-positioned in this space, but it's hard to beat such a tight-knit ecosystem like Apple's. Samsung, for example, has long used Android as a desktop OS on some of their tablets, as well as DEX mode on their phones. Heck, DEX even has a full Linux distro if you wish.

And even iPadOS isn't in the best position ecosystem-wise: most apps are still upsized mobile apps that don't quite make good use of its unique properties... and Android is very much in the same camp. With the other problem being that tablets as a form factor are... kinda niche. Either kids or pros

The only thing that casts hope that app developers take larger form factors more seriously is foldables becoming more common (currently only Android enables this), and having their apps suddenly exposed to a good amount of desktop users (ChromeOS is huge in education, now merging with Android)
