1/ Russian warbloggers are applauding the Trump Administration for the apparent crippling of Starlink in Ukraine. Terminals now reportedly no longer work at speeds of higher than 60-70 km/h (37 to 44 mph), effectively disabling many Ukrainian drones. ⬇️

Don't worry after midterms Elon will be discharged by the American people. Time to exchange Starlink for a company that plays fairly on the world stage. Takedown if Oligarchs is coming. Americans are sick of their BS.

Because your politics and government failed to limit the power these people can accumulate. Because a lot of your politicians are corrupt and willing to implement rigged policies making the rich more rich than ever before. REFORM is now called for to rein in their excesses.

Nothing says "disrupting the industry" quite like implementing a hardware-level speed limit for geopolitics. We've officially entered the era of the Geofenced War.

The sad thing is that not a single SpaceX employer will resign in disgust. Not a single greedy investor will rethink their participation to SpaceX financing. Not a single government will make Musk a Persona non grata or remove his citizenship. The world is doomed to become a set of Nazi fiefdoms.

As if this weren't the case all along. The entire US admin and SpaceX is compromised, and that much has been evident for a long time. Now Europe will pay the cost of hoping sharks have table manners and that sluggishness will result in leniency.

I hope they anticipated this. Main reason I refuse to use anything associated with that man! Everyone should take note at how he will use his tech against you.

This is beyond scary. And as Americans we need to realize that we can expect something similar with our own internet if things come to mass protest or anything the admin doesn’t like. they are doing that to Ukraine.

And we Canadians have to cancel our F-35 contracts and build stronger ties with Europe. Canada should probably build a nuclear stockpile if it isn’t too late. Kept telling everyone that Trump didn’t want to increase military spending from $1T to $1.5T for Venezuela or Iran.

Agreed. The America of yesterday is sadly gone. But give us a few years and we will be back to our old trustworthiness. As soon as democrats are in power again! Sorry about the last guy! He was an ass!

Sorry but the America of yesterday was a myth, Canada can’t trust the U.S. ever again. Should immediately cancel any further F-35 purchases, they’d be junk when/if you ever decide to annex us. Build up drone tech, and might have to consider a nuke stockpile. Next admin might be ok but in 10 yrs?

Nothing stops you people from doing it again. And we can see it is a big problem for you to keep your word and stick to agreements. It won't be "a few years", it will be never. There may be agreements in the future, but we'll make sure we don't depend on them, and that we can back out in an instant

There is a Tesla display at a nearby mall (in the middle) and all the attendants/demo guys are BLACK. I feel like asking if they knew Musk was a rabid racist from South Africa… (but I just mind my own business). It just BUGS me…

At the same time, Musk has, no doubt, (re-)ENABLED (illegal) Starlink terminals for Russian troops, both inside Ukraine and in Russia. (Ukraine has always been prevented from using Starlink inside Russia.) Or maybe that's the next step.

This paints a very dark picture with a number of lessons also to be learned by European countries. Chief among them being that the US under trump is no longer an ally and cannot be trusted. After trump is gone, Europe needs to reset the whole arrangement and free itself from the dependence on US.

The US is Europe's ally no more regardless of the WH inhabitant. Screw their midterms. We're on our own and we better build a new security frame or else...it's not going to be easy nor it can happen overnight but the rethoric has to change and punches have to be thrown.

“After trump is gone” - it needs to start now. To be honest, it needed to happen decades ago. Too many European leaders were happy to take the easy path of dependence on the U.S. and U.S. technology.

The arrangement was basically non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and living under the NATO umbrella with US holding practically all the nukes. In return, massive trade deals between US and European countries, where Europe was also happy to let US dominate tech and finance. That will change now.

Population EU + UK —> approx. 520million Population US —> approx. 350million Population russian federation —> approx. 145million Population Ukraine —> approx. 40million Better to have Ukraine in EU than in RF 🤷‍♂️

Biden did the same with ATACMS limiting their use and British Stormshadow which has US components on Russia - THAT should have been the warning. The US itself cannot be trusted - do NOT put the lives of your citizens in another's hands. Trump's worse but who KNOWS what the next President will do.

2/ Starshield (the military version of Starlink) is widely used by Ukrainian forces, as well as Starlink itself, for communications both on the battlefield and to control drones within Ukrainian territory, though not across the border in Russia.

3/ In February 2026, Ukraine, in collaboration with SpaceX, introduced a system of mandatory registration for Starlink terminals. This blocked Russian forces who were using smuggled terminals within Ukrainian territory, throwing their communications into chaos for a period.

4/ Commentators have anticipated for some time that the Trump Administration would exploit Ukraine's heavy reliance on Starlink/Starshield to force it to end the war on Putin's terms, despite the potential commercial damage this would cause to SpaceX.

The speed cap is the tell. It kills moving terminals, which is what drone relay needs. A switch you can flip mid strike is power. Kyiv and Europe build their own link before the leash gets shorter.

5/ While it's unclear whether the reported degradation of the service is deliberate or the result of technical problems, it would be consistent with a half-way approach of reducing its utility while not completely cutting it off and causing chaos among Ukrainian forces.
