Here is my formula for good game dev: (1/4) -Basic function. Open any applicable, and put random stuff together. A square throws a circle at other squares.? Not grand, but very important.

(2/4) -Infrastructure to make it easy to iterate on and add variety to basic function. Different obstacles, stat changes… Build the system, and (if non-competitive) let the random number generator do the heavy lifting.

(3/4) -Seek feedback, take notes. Play your own game 100 times over. Watch others get frustrated, and change whatever causes that. -Accessibility features, with a vision of the player in mind. Where are they, what compels them to this? Make it easy to play, so the difficult stuff is not so bad!
