I get why the aura glasses are running same apps as the MR headset (though I'm a bit worried about optimal seethrough design given how much of the android xr backgrounds are black)

what I'm wondering most of all though is why ai glasses and spatial hmds share a platform when it seems the APIs are so massively different for them?

The applications you can build in AI glasses are different from those in XR Headsets / wired XR glasses because of form factor, capabilities and target use cases. There are common APIs among them though like ARCore for jetpack XR developer.android.com/develop/xr/j...

right, was just wondering why there wasn't Android AI or something as a separate OS from Android XR given how different their capabilities and target uses are
