lol wtf, MLB proposing to make the expanded wild card even more of a joke by allowing higher-seed teams to pick which lower-seed teams they play? The expanded wildcard is a joke to begin with, just to manufacture more bullshit for talk shows to speculate on and fill air time from July to September.

The way major league baseball's postseason used to work was: in each league, the team from each of the geographic divisions (west, central, east) with the best record makes it to the postseason. Additionally, one "wildcard" team from each league would also advance based on the remaining best record.

Practically what this leads to is a lot of talking heads obsessing over the top 6 or so outside of the division leaders for the entire second half of the season. Like, it seems purpose-built to consume (and waste) time and attention long before the postseason even starts.
