A Tennessee grandmother spent more than five months in jail after police used an AI facial recognition tool to link her to crimes committed in North Dakota – a state she says she'd never been to before. https://cnn.it/40X1LD8

That sounds terrible and I’d love to read the full story, but considering who will be assuming ownership soon and how this pops up when I open any CNN links, I’ll have to pass.

Using AI facial recognition for arrests is a 'DISASTER'!! HAVEN'T YOU ALL SEEN THE TWINS OF EPSTEIN RAMBLING AROUND EVEN IN THE USA?? SHALL YOU ARREST THEM TOO TO PUT INTO A JAIL??? ALL CITIZENS HAVE THEIR TWINS AND CLONS HERE AND THERE ON EARTH EVEN IN EUROPE AND SOUTH AMERICA!!

Quote “What I can tell you, from what I know right now, is that the persons involved are also very upset by this, because they pride themselves on their thoroughness,” he said. “No one wants to see someone detained, arrested unnecessarily.” They make a serious error and they are the victims, Jesus🙄

I read this quote and copied it to post. I think they misspoke, there is a person called Noone among the people involved in this travesty. There is a GoFundMe for this poor lady and I hope she uses some of it to sue.

advice for someone? don't do what happened to them, because you can't really prevent being misidentified by broken tech like that tell her she didn't deserve any of that and the system failed hard here. smh

God forbid the police apologize to her. The amount of mistakes and sheer laziness involved with the investigation is outrageous. Its one thing to us FR or AI as a tool, but to issue a warrant with no other evidence? How many innocent ppl are sitting in jail that can't prove the AI ID was wrong?

The good thing is though, that at least someone has been convicted. AI and facial recognition is too smart not to be used, when ordinary decent police investigation has given up.

The US´s judicial system doesn´t seem to think that way. The killings of randon people in the streets by federal agents, without those being prosecuted, is another indication of justice being a political tool.

NO ONE has been arrested, let alone convicted, for the crimes Ms Lipps was arrested and spent 5 months in prison. Saying AI facial recognition is 'too smart' sure paints a poor picture of your critical thinking ability. They did no ordinary decent police investigation before or after they used AI.

Sorry yes, not convicted but detained. The irony in my call of possitive stately use of AI is seemingly being missed. I agree with you, that ordinary police work should have been done. The state ought not to legitimize judicial use of AI without this. The post was meant as an ironic warning.

Are the cops really this dumb? Well I guess this news story answers that question... Anybody who's been playing around with AI knows for a fact that it'll make up whatever the fuck face it wants if you ask it to identify someone 🙄 FUCK THE POLICE

She lost everything, even her car, home and her dog. I just donated a small amount. Hope she gets enough to get her life back in order and get a really good lawyer.

She has Deprivation of Right cases against both police departments She also has an endangerment case against ND police for kicking her out in the North Dakota cold in the middle of winter 1200 miles from home
