Kansas Dem Sen. nominee Adam Hamilton on trans rights: β€œI don’t think we should take a small group of people and bully them, pick on them, and hurt them. I understand one thing really clearly when it comes to transgender people, and that is Jesus told me I was to love my neighbor as I love myself”

It's already illegal. Congress banned it near-unanimously in 2022. That law allows the ban to be lifted only if Russia withdraws from Ukraine. He's simply breaking the law that's already on the books.

David S. Bernstein @dbernstein.bsky.social

Republican US Rep Brian Fitzgerald tweets that he will introduce a bill to block purchases of Russian oil. Don Bacon (R-Neb) tweets that he will co-sponsor. Obviously this won’t happen during campaigning recess (and Trump could veto anyway) but interesting push-back on Trump.

When I first introduced my bill to ban stock trading in Congress 5 years ago, only a handful joined us. Since then, we’ve built a movement of bipartisan reformers committed to ending the corruption once and for all. The time is now Speaker Johnson. Put the bill on the floor.

Thousands of immigrants did the hard, dirty work of clearing rubble and toxic dust and debris from Ground Zero. Many were undocumented laborers sent to work every day with no special PPE, and got cancer as a result. Now some of those same people are living in fear of ICE. www.npr.org/2026/09/11/n...

I've become radicalized on ICE, and I'm an immigration hawk. But "defund ICE" isn't a plan. (Me, I'd create a service, perhaps one that handles immigration, and also naturalization, and I'd call it the "Immigration and Naturalization Service")

independent56.bsky.social@independent56.bsky.social

Similar to the calls to defund ICE. Reform is needed but do we want to also eliminate investigating/prosecuting transnational criminal organizations, illegal cross-border trade, human trafficking, narcotics smuggling, cybercrime, intellectual property theft, & financial crimes? All fall under ICE.

Demanding to examine a child's genitals for them to play sports is fucking insane

Gillian Branstetter@gbbranstetter.bsky.social

An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play

But perhaps more interesting is Fox' Iowa poll: www.foxnews.com/politics/fox... Josh Turek (D) leads Ashley Hinson (R) 50/46 for Senate Rob Sand (D) leads Zach Lahn (R) 53/44 for governor (A NYT/Siena poll this morning had Sand up 1 and Hinson up 2.)

The day before Trump paused tariffs and sent the S&P 500 up 9.5%, his investment accounts bought 327 stocks worth $12.8 million. It was one of the biggest one-day market rallies in history. The trades were disclosed over a year late. The penalty was $200. Parking tickets cost more than that.

Maybe we plan on big celebrations in 2033 for the end of the Revolutionary War and 2038 for ratification of the Constitution. Not as sexy as the 1776 stuff but we deserve a party we all can enjoy.

Gillian Brockell@gillianbrockell.com

And as you watch the Trump regime's sloppy, lame, politicized "celebrations" that have been thrown together at the last minute with duct tape, please understand Congress created a nonpartisan commission for 250 plans in 2016! I went to one of its first meetings, at DC's DAR hall, SEVEN YEARS AGO.

1. To put it mildly, the Democrats have had a complicated relationship with the white working class at least since passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. But things are going to be simple in the run up to November's midterm elections.
