whereas 1930s socialists operated primarily as an independent third party backed by industrial blue-collar workers, the contemporary movement functions mostly as an activist wing within or alongside the Democratic Party, largely powered by college-educated, downwardly mobile young professionals.

We don't need it to be 'completely' stolen by wannabe dictators, wannabe fascists, wannabe communists, nazis, racists, far rightists, far leftists&all funnily claiming to be related with democracy while when at the helm, getting all of the incomes of the workers 'banning' saving money individually!!

The Trumps are taking it somewhat further and warning broadly about communism. And it requires a minimal insight in historical political twists and turns to understand the difference.

To leave this post up without the caveat that while there are some liberals who are knowingly democratic socialists, many of these democrats actually have bdliefs more accurately defined as social democratic - as are many NATO nations.

And 2/3 don’t. Independents don’t and absolutely no Republican doesn’t. So democratic socialists are about 1/16th of all U.S. voters. Congrats kids. You beat out the Green Party.

Sadly naive reporters are easily manipulated by sensationalism. Politically-well-informed ppl agree Dems will unite when necessary (democracy’s messy but always worth fighting for) Meanwhile divisive politics distracts from a GOP-Trump-billionaire fascist/oligarchy that definitely would destroy US‼️

The problem with labels and polls is that the majority of Americans could not define a Democratic Socialist. Better to poll people on their policy priorities. Do you favor the rich paying their fair share? Do you like the idea of healthcare for all kids?

The DSA has 100,000 members. The Dem Party has 45M registered. Your poll should ask Dems about specific DSA platforms because 90% of Dems have no clue what the DSA platform is.

And who running for office in the Dems would be such a candidate? Is there such a party or more fake news?

Will CNN responsibly mention that Democratic socialism is not the same as Socialism? I'm not either of them, but they are very different and the right does NOT want you to know that. In fact, they want you to think it's Communism.
