It doesn't. You need a program to get it to work but you also have to be careful as the program people keep recommending is Chinese spyware.

Anyway, MotionInJoy is the program that is what always gets recommended. Install it if you want your PS3 controller to work and don't mind it contacting Chinese servers as you play.

DsHIDMini is what i use. the programmer is a catankerous weirdo but as long as you follow the instructions exactly DsHIDMini is great for PS3 controllers. i use it for PS2/3 emulation.
