But if we are talking first contact with a personal computer, that could be either a Commodore VIC-20 my uncle was testing, or his Sharp PC-1500 with mini-plotter.
I got my Electron at Christmas in 1984. I would have been 8. My dad plugged in into a portable TV (black and white initially) for me and connected it to the tape recorder, but other than that left me to my own devices and I had to learn to use it on my own.
*strictly* speaking it doesn't date me quite as well as it dates some people, because I got my Elk in (I think) 1988, aged 5, so quite a bit after its heyday.
My absolute earliest memories of any computer at all :) I was about 7 years old I guess. Taught myself BASIC on that. I wish I could remember more about it, I struggle to even remember what games we had. But I do 100% remember typing in BASIC code from the manual as I learnt.
I was still in infants school when I got one, but it was during the electrons peak. So, unfortunately, it dates me accurately. I might have been one of its few users who was still learning to read by reading the Electron User Guide.
