We’re in a moral fight, and Democrats in Congress need to start acting like the opposition party on every 👏🏽 damn 👏🏽 thing 👏🏽 Opposition isn’t about polite press releases and sad cable hits. It’s about using every procedural tool available to slow, expose, and force accountability. 🧵

Republicans do this ruthlessly when they’re in the minority. Dems act like it’s impolite. That’s a frustrating choice as a voter, given the fascist regime we have ruling this country. 2.

Things Democrats could and should be doing right now: • Publicly coordinate obstruction. Stop pretending obstruction is shameful. Call it what it is, opposition to extremism. • Make shutdown threats hurt politically.Tie every delay directly to Republicans’ agenda. Say it clearly, on repeat. 3.

• Stop saving them from themselves. No bipartisan cover for chaos. No “adults in the room” routine. Let them own the mess. • Withhold unanimous consent. Stop letting Republicans fast-track everything because it’s “easier.” Make them earn every inch. 4.

• Force recorded votes on everything. No voice votes. No hiding. Put every member on the record so voters can see exactly who backed what. • Demand quorum calls constantly. Make them show up. Waste their time. Drain the clock. Governing requires attendance. 5.

• Force full bill readings. Every bill. Every page. Read it aloud on the floor before any vote. If it’s so great, they can stand there and own it. • Use procedural objections aggressively. Object to motions. Object to shortcuts. Object to rushed timelines. Drag it all into the light. 6.

• Offer endless amendments. Even if they fail, force debate. Force votes. Force Republicans to explain themselves over and over. • Exploit committee rules. Demand hearings. Call witnesses. Subpoena documents. Slow walk every markup. 7.

• Refuse to waive debate time. Let the clock run. Make them defend bad policy in real time instead of slipping it through. • Use motions to recommit. Force tough votes right before final passage. Make Republicans choose between their base and the record. 8.

Republicans understand something Democrats keep pretending not to: procedure is power. If you’re in the minority and you’re still making things easy for the majority, you’re not resisting. You’re managing their agenda. Act like the opposition. It’s what we elected you to do. It’s the job.

I think at thos point how do we replace the party system that is in place with at least more that a two parties that people will actually vote for? We need something like rank choice voting but how do we make politicians implement such a system when what we have works better for them.

I’ll make it easier for them. Do what a Republican Party would do, if they were in the minority, and trying to block a Democratic President’s agenda…….. 🤷‍♂️ If they need notes on how, Google Mitch McConnell.

Current leadership is too timid and still behaves as if the GOP acts rationally. The House and Senate are full of Chamberlains and not a single Churchill that's desperately needed. Schumer and Jeffries have the charisma of 5 watt bulb. Enough to see they're working, but otherwise useless.

This is why Waj is right about calling out both sides. Dems need to learn from the GQP about getting LOUD. None of the polite but firm statements while sipping a cuppa with 1 pinkie out type of ish. Learn from Gandhi. Learn from MLK jr. Stir up good trouble. Get LOUD.

Absolutely! I’m tired of the Democrat party lack of fight. This whole experience is pushing me to be more progressive than I ever thought I would be but those are the only people I am willing to support those that have the teeth to fight!
