What "preemptive actions to mitigate the pain" does CGE feel were skipped? How would these steps have made this product a less harmful thing to market under current circumstances?

Given the legal realities, I think this is probably the best you could have done. I’m in this as an ally, so I can’t speak as to whether it’s enough for trans folks, but I appreciate the effort. I will no longer by boycotting CGE. (Of course the years long boycott of anything JKR continues)

Speaking just for myself, someone who takes care of folks in this community and has family in it, thank you for making an honest effort to apologize and working to reduce harm. It is rare to see a company trying to make restorative change when they have caused harm. #TransRightsAreHumanRights

This will be really useful on the wake of the Italian government that has decided to register trans minors, due to the global (and UK) success of antitrans movements. This will help only a small portion of people in the US. The 100% of money you are not donating will harm me and my family. Thanks

You buckled under some radical minority. CGE is such a great company - awesome games, fair pricing. You'll never be able to satisfy everyone's personal beliefs, it's a steep path that leads to the dilution of your own success. HP is an awesome universe and franchise.

Thanks for calling attention to this β€œradical minority” because said minority is currently in the midst of having their lives legislated out of existence. The number of trans athletes nationwide competing in high school sports is ~10. So why such vitriol and hate from so many people about it?

Yep. Majority of people agree with JKR and want women's sex protections defended. Normal people don't think men should be allowed to self-ID, hang dong, & compete against women. CGE just caved to a vocal group of squeaky wheel misogynists that think men should be allowed to do whatever they want.

There's a phrase that feels pretty apt here. "Actions speak louder than words". These are all nice-sounding words, but some visible actions would be nice. Actual actions would include canceling the release outright, rather than continuing to promote Rowling and the Harry Potter brand.

They’re addressing the community harmed the most by their actions, which is one of the main aspects of practicing accountability well. It would be like if a drunk driver totaled your car and I suggested the driver should make a donation to the local kitten rescue.

Classic mistake. Never cave to the bullies. They are never happy and were already not going to buy from CGE. Now you'll lose money and the anti-women fascists will still cry about it. You should donate to pro-women causes instead. This is a weak move.

Thank you. I'm aware that because of legal reasons, you may not be able to say what you want to . When you announced the problematic licence, I told you I wouldn't be buying any of your games until this was fixed. I look forward to spending money on your games again with my next paycheck.

I'm glad you listened but honestly - you're still putting money in the pocket of a Nazi transphobe, and you're still raising the profile of her IP. We are beyond the point when any financial support of the HP universe or it's creator is acceptable.

Keep in mind that some of the Harry Potter movies "lost" money, so some creative accounting could mean that they didn't get any profits. CGE got in bed with the devil and still expect to get their investment back before deigning to help others. They do not deserve the benefit of the doubt!

Note that they said they would ensure they will give at least as much as they paid out in license fees. There are ways they could be misleading still but this does put a lower bound on what they'll pay.

It looks like I can start thinking about buying Codename Pictures again, thanks for listening and taking meaningful action. Great to see real action in these times of increasing dangers for members of this community.

While of course I would rather a new HP product not exist, this is a better plan than I had expected. Thank you for taking actual action on this issue! I do hope you will be able to provide transparency in the process, as I am sure there are ways to minimize "profit" through creative accounting.

Thank you for making the right, but tough decision. Apologies arent free, and I hope folks can learn from this and accept your apology. I'm happy to know I dont have to blacklist this company any further and will proceed to purchase an alchemist game!

The β€œright” decision would be to not publish it at all. They made a business decision because they didn’t want to continue hemorrhaging money due to negative press. This was a business decision and nothing more. We can acknowledge it and thank them and then keep holding others accountable.
