After 6 weeks with Cursor, I feel like I'm starting to get an understanding on how to get the most benefit from AI in my daily coding ✅ Turning off Cursor autocomplete has been the biggest boost in improving my daily interactions with AI, productivity and code quality

Pitfalls of AI in 2024: ❌ Autocomplete often removes the space/time to think about what I'm implementing ❌ Often the suggestion will look ok on the surface but is riddled with hard to spot bugs that take ages to find ❌ Chat feature often makes up fake APIs for newer tech e.g. SwiftUI or Bun

Strengths of AI in 2024: ✅ When you have a backbone of tests to safeguard your business logic, AI chat can shine in explaining refactors and reviewing your code ✅ READMEs should never be empty or look ugly again, AIs take all the effort out of putting one together and maintaining it

✅ AI is exceptionally good at command line scripting and regex ✅ AI is really good at implementing and optimising CI/CD pipelines. Spinning up GitHub Actions for parallelised matrixes in a monorepo takes seconds ✅ Rubber ducking code is a breeze with AI and it can simplify legacy code quickly

Totally agree! How have you found it for learning something completely new? I think it’s great at explaining things that you’re aware of but need clarification. But when it comes to learning new technology from scratch, it’s not there yet to teach it or replace searching the official docs

Yeah it’s basically my new Google for figuring out things. Google is only for new stuff and very exact searches. Sometimes it’s weird though. I have an MC808 that also has a software editor and it keeps insisting I have certain buttons on my front panel that only exist in software.
