I agree to a point. The conflict comes when a critical mass of people decide they don't want to be traumatized whilst masses of others are, in fact, being traumatized whether they want to or not. If a critical mass of people refuse to bear witness then the abusers win.

As a retired social worker I often heard the same from families of abused women: we knew it was bad, we didn't know it what THAT bad. Because it hurt so bad for them to look, they refused to look.
