I mean put it this way, Gruber doesn't say he *doesn't* pay for X in his post, so he could well have titled "X Once Again Marks the Spot" as... "I Pay For X Now, And You Should, Too" because that's essentially what he's recommending.

no seriously, Gruber *must* be paying for X Premium, right? .. assuming he's paying for at least Premium ($30/mo), he's not seeing ads (which most people would be seeing) and is getting a reply boost too (plus a bunch of Grok stuff).

"On the other networks, especially Mastodon, they tell you you’re “feeding Nazis” — by going to the platform where Tim Cook posts Pikachu videos" I dunno, John. You're recommending that people pay at least $8/mo to the platform owned by a Nazi to make the Nazi richer. Isn't that right?

"I stopped visiting at all when the algorithm there was putting Musk’s own tweets into my timeline, every time I checked, despite the fact that I never followed him. But they don’t do that anymore. I don’t see much politics of any kind in my timeline" don't want to read him but you'll pay him

He might be comped; that would make it worse in a way. Again: if you have 300k followers built up over 20+ years then you are playing to an audience and leaning on your reputation whether you like it or not and you should feel at least some duty of care towards that audience.
