If you enjoyed YOU CAN SEE EVEREYTHING then I recommend The Fable of the Bees to fans of brilliant terrible frauds.

I am actually lazily not a Marxist, I just start with 18th century capitalism — fucking Mandeville, you terrible bastard — and think every hard smart brake on that model that showed up along the way is fucking right and needs to be accommodated.

I am an old-school democratic socialist in the sense that I believe the free market generates better outcomes than planned economies right up to the point at which Adam Smith and David Ricardo said they absolutely don't and instead become massive social burdens.

Like if you are a fucking libraries-gave-us-power working-class democratic socialist you actually have extremely limited tolerance for absolutely middle-class shit in this domain, just fuck off and do your own thing, you will never go poor doing it.

this is the greatest test of "private vices are public virtues" we have ever seen and I am willing to see it flushed down the shitter.

I don't even know if the vices of this administration class as private vices anymore for the purposes of this particular test, everyone sees them and it is a choice not to treat them as public.

I am free-market up to cartels and monopolies, I understand that wages actually tend under free markets towards starvation level unless held upwards by law, it is good to have half your head in the 1700s to see what you find offensive by those standards.

This is actually a thing that is quite hard to communicate in 2026 in English-language domains (though true in other-language domains): your father was absent but working somewhere shitty that was either enough to pay the bills or enough to get you fancy stuff that will get you into trouble.

Loadsamoney is a southerner, he never had to spend weeks away from his kids and he was never privileged enough to spend those weeks away in a place where he could buy tacky shit to cover up the absence. (The absence was never fully covered up.)

I think it's kind of telling that the American players are clearly living in Hurworth, their points of contact are Darlo and not the Boro proper, but that's okay, you could actually get good sushi if you lived <10 miles away but also really fucking good Persian lamb too but that would be scary.

They're kids, it's okay, but they are actually Hurworth-Wynard brained, you can get good food in certain ethnic tiers from Boro proper if you want, not Mexican or South American but you have a fucking S-tier Persian restaurant on your doorstep.

I realize that "if you make the best choice available given the circumstances you were living under" actually means empowering the people who chose grifts and fraud over the past decade so I'll revise to "if you make the best moral choice available"

I am the son of a painter and decorator who could have done more with what he was given and the son of an office clerk who could have done more with what she was given and that's actually okay except the rules changed under them to invalidate their choices which is why Thatcher burns in hell.

It is fucking hilarious that the Oxford University Reform Society (that cannot call itself that) lists its officers in a TIFF file and alas fucking hilarious that the current president is at Oriel. That the founder-president is currently at Catz is less funny, but dipshits choose poorly.

The three most embarrassing official student societies during my time at Oxford: — CIB (Dan Hannan's twat menagerie) — L'Chaim (for all the blatant charities fraud, lookin' at you Cory Booker) — OUCA (still doing "ironic" Hitler stuff in the 90s)

Having seen this dance of "variances in exchange for lottery units" play out in Asheville over a very long time I remain committed to the vulgar belief that if a local government wants affordable housing it should build a shitload of housing and rent it at affordable rates.

Subsidized housing is a good thing and we should publicly fund it instead of relying on kludgy, counterproductive market mechanisms that trade broad middle class housing affordability for a handful of means-tested units.

I am mindful that satisfying the law may mean heavily bankrolling nonprofits to do the construction and management, and that nonprofits that rely on government funding are just government you can't vote out, but we are where we are.

Once again: how the NYT finds these people is its most closely-held internal secret and not even Margaret Sullivan could pierce the veil.

There was something kind of elegiac about finally deactivating a hidden CF7 install on a local history site that had brought in nothing but bot spam for six years and swapping out a broken and abandoned Google Maps embed plugin with Leaflet/OSM embeds that work.

They haven't been "alive" the way they were when they were created for 6-7 years (abandoned plugins etc.) but they don't deserve to die.

I don’t even feel like I can bill for these past 3 days of work because the website designer who asked for my help can’t really bill for it either; like @waldo.net said these WP sites should just go static, dehydrate.

1824: Recievd a letter from Allan Cunningham - looked into Pope I know not how it is but I cannot take him up often or read him long together the uninterrupted flow of the verses wearys the ear there are some fine passages in the 'Essay on Man' the Pastorals are nicknamed so for daffodils...

To elaborate a little more: around 2000 I went into the Smythson shop on New Bond Street to order some letter-writing paper and envelopes and was initially treated like a vagrant until I hit all the class-based button sequences in order. American mostbrow retail is mostly not like that.

This is 110% correct and accounts for why the Cheesecake Factory's Charlotte location is the same upscale mall (SouthPark) as the Apple store, Neiman Marcus, Balenciaga etc.

Probably the guy who's going to come out of this one looking like a hero is André Janones, a deputy (congressman) from Minas Gerais who just kind of... decided to take the reins of the situation, more or less, and people were feeling so aimless after the first round that they went along with it.

I have been in a WhatsApp group with 50 Brazilians and that was a lot. (As best I can tell Brazilians seem to prefer WA over Discord because Discord is associated there with CSAM.)

Bruno Dies@brunodias.dev

At one point he had a Whatsapp group with 10 million people in it, coordinating action. Which I didn't even think whatsapp was infrastructurally designed to support. And yes, whatsapp is of course a meta network, but the strategy was to be everywhere, to act redundantly, to be unbannable.

the point of cheesecake factory is it's classy AND fancy AND trashy AND goofy. staff in fresh-pressed restaurant whites but half the menu items are cheeseburgers. you look equally normal eating there in a suit or in jorts. kris jenner filmed a music video there. it's the fever dream of John Everyman

founder ideology is built out from the notion that business owners are the only people who are actually alive and you should be allowed to do or say anything to non-founders without consequences. elizabeth holmes and her husband are, first and foremost, Founders

One of the stranger things that I'm still trying to work out is that Nathan Fielder is somehow from BC when he is obviously by his nature a messy fucking Quebec anglophone and maybe there is a messy Quebec anglophone contingent in BC that I missed.

I have been to the Cheesecake Factory once and that was in Charlotte and I have been to an Old Spaghetti Factory once before in Louisville and we all know what these things are, nobody has to be a twat about it.

You Can See Everything is the definitive portrayal of whiteness: the bullshit, the alexithymia, the ever-present threat of litigation, guns, the reptiles, the codependency without intimacy, the horses, the dry lips.

During his years on that small island my dad met Billy Connolly when he was just a folk banjo player and Sandy Denny and also ate Chinese food for the first time, I am determined to talk to him tomorrow about whether it was the Mandarin where he said he got the duck starter and then the duck again.

My dad lived and worked in Jersey from 1966-1970 and so most episodes of Bergerac were "oh I painted that house" / my parents were so sad when they went back to Jersey in the 00s and found it had become mostly a shitty tax haven where all of the 60s people were living quiet lives around it all.
