Hey devs, as a still newbie to React and Next.js, is it smart to start building the first portfolio apps with TypeScript, or focus on JS first and transition later? 💻 I see a pattern that almost all good companies work with TS, so using it from beginning could level up my code clarity and skill. 👨‍💻

Go with TS once you are comfortable with JS stuff, earlier you get used to, the better. The basic TS you actually need is pretty easy to pick up, and the rest is just practice, and seeing a lot.

From a non-dev point of you're view, you're thinking too much. Just build something cool and show people, then streamline your stack to something you want to work with long term.

I found typescript very relevant when coding with AI help. it give context right away. Also it's super good at writing typescript and debug problem. That being said even without AI the time you save debugging is huge compared to the time you spend typing things

I think digging into TypeScript is probably a good idea if you want a job. I think it's common that people jump over JavaScript but I really feel like understanding the underlying code is important, especially when debugging. I don't know if I'd go so far as to say do JS first, though.
