Hey #unity #blender #gamedev peeps, how do you work on existing FBX characters that have an armature and pre-existing animations. Now you e.g. want to add a bone to it. Orientation mess. Surprised there isn't tooling to e.g. temporarily reorient bones - or simply change the display orientation?

Of course I don't know if you've tried that yet. But this option tends to work well for me, when importing FBX from different Packages. Rather than manually figuring out the correct orientations. Dunno, maybe it's helpful :D

yeah if I'm not mistaken, the new skeleton and existing animations won't work together, so this is a one-way workaround... hmm

meaning that it requires retargeting in the game engine

select armature -> viewport display -> show axes allows preserving the skeleton but seeing a bit more usable orientations as a workaround
