Matt Medeiros’s 2025 WordPress predictions don't seem so spot-on so far. The first prediction was that Automattic would take more control of WordPress. 9 days later they announced they were largely stepping away from contributions.

In general he gets a lot of stuff wrong. He is citing something that happened in October 2023, as something that happened in 2024. That was part of calling Matt Mullenweg's focus on messenger apps a "distraction." While Matt has claimed it is one of three life goals.

It seems pretty clear that the level of involvement from Automattic employees was about Matt Mullenweg keeping control. What went down with the Marketing team was a pretty clear example of that. Either he has less control now or not much can get done.
