Rather than ramping up their own weapons production, European countries are giving in to Trump's demand that they pay simply to transfer American weapons to Ukraine (since the US is stopping direct military aid). Is 🇺🇸 profiting off 🇺🇦 suffering?

davekeating.substack.comNATO got PURLed yesterdayEastern and Northern European defence ministers have agreed to an extortionate American demand to pay to be middlemen in Ukraine arms delivery—further locking in Europe's military dependence.

Europe can't provide patriot missiles (to stop ballistic missiles), long range missiles nor space based intelligence for hitting with said missiles, they have us over the barrel. In time, we will have it - but we haven't got it yet, so we get exploited. Politicians can't magic that into existence.

Yes I think so. But that will change as European businesses ramp up production and supply. I would love to see European satellites increase, both military and civilian increase Europe’s capabilities, so they can feed and support military planning and operations, and not be blackmailed by Trump.

Rome wasn't built in a day. Still no European equivalent to GMLRS. The only European equivalent to Patriot is SAMP/T, and I don't know how equivalent that is, as well as production capability. If Europe only buys European for Ukraine, Ukraine will lose. It takes time to design and build things.

But nobody is saying Europe should only buy European. The French ask is for a portion to be ring-fenced. There is only one reason for these 🇺🇸arms purchases to be steered through a 🇺🇸government program and that is to lock Europe in to 🇺🇸arms dependence.

As far as I understand, these are systems meant for Ukraine and don't have much bearing on what Countries will buy for themselves. Countries choosing European over US for their own systems is where long term decisions are taken. Like Denmark choosing SAMP/T over patriot for whatever official reason.

I was thinking the exact same thing. It's just more extortion. I understand why it might be necessary for immediate needs, but we need to get deadly serious about changing that reliance as soon as humanly possible. No more US dependency!
