If only we had leaders with this kind of nerve in Europe. Instead, we get continual surrender to Trump. Even though Europe is much more capable of defending itself from the US than Canada , which is much much more exposed. The difference is courage. Something Europe needs to find.

How's that working for you? Canadians support PM Carney in these tough negotiations. Wab Kinew said: "there is no good deal with bad people". It may get rough, but we'll be fine. Donald is WEAK.

Exactly. Canadians can handle tough times, and we’re not going to be bullied into accepting a bad deal. Stand firm, stay united, and negotiate from strength. 🇨🇦🇺🇸

so then the question is why we dont have such leaders, because ours are elected. If they are bad you have to ask why the people elect them. And we do have leaders with 'this kind of nerve', e. g. Pedro Sanchez. Only he's billed as 'left' which is intolerable for the European bourgeoisie.

Sanchez is not the EU. The EU is, at this moment, governed by people with no vision, mostly right wing, and willing to play the radical right song because of immigration matters. Also, european countries act egoisticly (see the Ceuta crisis).

If the EU wants a trade policy that is consistent, with rules that are upheld by both parties, it needs to show solidarity with Canada, or any other nation that wishes to have consistent trade and tariff policy

So will the U.S. but they ignore that part. Just like they ignore why Canada imposed retaliatory tariffs in the first place. This trade war is self made by the U.S. and completely unnecessary. We had a deal that was working.

Up to now, Trump has always backed down in US-EU trade disputes. The EU has allowed Trump to get the headlines he wants while the detail on trade is a win for the EU. Additional courage hasnt been needed yet.

That is not even remotely true. The Turnberry deal was a surrender by the EU. Trump has won every trade battle he's had with Europe because Europeans immediately surrendered.

I wish that were true, but it isn't. There is no independent European military capacity, and every move toward creating one is blocked by Mark Rutte and national leaders. Sovereign European defence is not being built. They're just spending more – on US weapons, at US command.
