There are parts of Brooklyn where the best Jewish style deli food is at halal restaurants owned and operated by Yemeni Muslim immigrants who learned how to make wonderfully authentic brisket, pastrami, and corned beef. It's so perfectly New York and sums up so much of what's great about this city.

They have been making brisket and pastrami in their homeland for centuries—like all the non-pork eating countries. Pastrami is called basterma in MENA countries and the Levant. They have just adapted what they already knew to NYC tastes.

In this specific case the people behind David's Brisket House and Moe's Pastrami & Burger specifically learned how to make the American Jewish style implementations in terms of flavor, process, etc.
