My latest piece → A single Ukrainian Skynex fire unit has so far intercepted 37 Russian aerial targets, consisting of cruise missiles and Shahed drones, with a big share of these being downed in a single mission. 🔗: deaidua.org/news/2026/06...

These systems were actually put onto trucks so that they have some added survivability. Also, the Rheinmetall Millennium system is basically the ship mounted version of this and is used by a small but growing number of navies

Ah cool, didn't know they had the naval version. It's crazy how we are getting to the scifi tech of auto turrets shooting down airborne targets. Battlefields are going to be unrecognizable in a decade.

€70.000.000 is a ridiculous price for a system with only a 4km range which can't even protect the whole teritorry of one factory. If two drones come from opposite directions, one will hit the target.

Given that one fire unit consists of four guns and multiple targets can be engaged at the same time, what is the base of your claim?

The weapon itself is formidable, I just find the price incredibly high for a short range system, be it the best of its kind in the world, considering that it can only protect one target and that you'd need many of them for whole city.

Skynex may be capable, but according to reports it is also hideously expensive at 70 million per battery. This is expensive enough that one Skynex battery costs more than most targets you might want to protect at such short range. Price needs to come down a lot before it will see wider adoption.

Cruise Missile Cost: ~$13 million (What Russia spent to build it). Power plant Repair Cost: $$50 million to $$200 million (To replace massive, custom-built high-voltage transformers that take months or years to manufacture).

= Hundreds of millions in lost industrial productivity, business closures etc If a single 4 gun Skynex battery costing $90 million intercepts just one cruise missile heading for that power plant, it works cost wise. You get the flawless reliability with the system which is a game changer.
