(2/6) HOW WE GOT HERE: Election workers and voters were left scrambling when the GOP-led North Carolina State Board of Elections changed the rules for how ballots would be cast — the morning the state began sending absentee ballots out. demdock.com/4z1M9gQ
(4/6) WHAT THIS MEANS: Tens of thousands of North Carolina midterm ballots could legally be rejected over minor technical issues. The biggest risk for error? Voters now must seal their ballot inside an inner envelope before putting it into another outer envelope. demdock.com/4i8foHx
(5/6) 🔺In Guilford County, upwards of 2% of all ballots received over the past three weeks have been thrown out because voters did not properly seal the inner envelope. 🔺In Wake County, the rejection rate is greater than 2.5%, with 40 ballots discarded for lacking an inner envelope seal.

Thrown out = a ballot that cannot be counted. Rule is still that "due process requires a cure opportunity". If a non-curable is thrown out, a new ballot is issued to the voter if there is "time to do so" or they can cast a in-person ballot. NC voters, if notified, have recourse to get cured.
The last update on curing an absentee ballot in North Carolina was in Sep. 2026: www.ncsbe.gov/blog/2021/06...
Yes, they are supposed to be notified withing one business day. www.ncsbe.gov/blog/2021/06...
