Pity the nation — oh, pity the people who allow their rights to erode and their freedoms to be washed away. My country, tears of thee, sweet land of liberty. ― Lawrence Ferlinghetti (1919-2021), 2007 DEMOCRACY DIES IN IGNORANCE

Voters are facing 2.5-hour lines and 45-minute walks to get to the polls. Why? Because Republicans slashed early voting sites. Make a voting plan, bring snacks and water and vote as early as you can. Follow Democracy Docket for the latest news ahead of the midterms.

Voter memory is so very fickle? Donald Trump's lowest job approval rating in 2021 was 29%, in a Pew Research Center poll after the Jan. 6th US Capitol riot before he left office. Trump's YEARLY averages, but he still got elected again: 2017 38%, 2018 40%, 2019 43.4%, 2020 38%, 2025 41%

Lowest approval since Truman is pretty fucking impressive. I think we can do better, though.

Trump does, as Trump accuses. Trump in 2016, 2020, and 2024, blamed fraud by voters and crooked election officials for not having more votes. Trump banked on his maga sheep to give him an impossible vote count. We need some brave sheep with a conscience and a very loud whistle. Please read it.

Indivisible states that quote "But since the Democratic Party brand is so toxic right now" - is a DELIBERATE self-fulfilling prophecy. Unfortunately, that subtle gaslighting will be believed by many. Democrats have the power to change everything with a SUPERMAJORITY in Congress. Vote wisely.

Indivisible ❌👑@indivisible.org

Grassroots wins are sparking an establishment freakout. But since the Democratic Party brand is so toxic right now, working to rehabilitate that brand is just smart politics. If you want to build a better Democratic Party that fights fascism as hard as we do, there are many ways you can help. 👇

It should be noted that Trump isn't paying the bills. If a doctor and/or hospital isn't getting reimbursed, they will begin to drop Medicare patients. Trump must want old people to die sooner. If you denied lower cost treatment, patients will seek emergency treatment at increased expense.

Senator Patty Murray@murray.senate.gov

Seniors on Medicare are being forced to confront ridiculous red tape to get the procedures they need. AI should NOT be deciding if you get health care. I have a bill to make sure it doesn’t.

The "establishment" doesn't need to be abolished, but authoritarianism does. The "establishment" needs improving, but demanding absolute solidarity is not the way to go about it. Indivisible, the word, describes the Nation against malign foreign influence, not against some US citizens!

Trump did not say it's a "more permanent" basis - which implies Blanche is semi-permanent and temporary as it normally is. BUT Trump said "We are going to make him permanent attorney general" -- so Trump means "permanent". If Blanche is permanent, then Trump implies he is also - "permanent".

CNN@cnn.com

President Trump has formally tapped acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to take on the top law enforcement job on a more permanent basis, sending his nomination to the Senate. Blanche, formerly one of Trump’s personal lawyers, would succeed Pam Bondi, who was fired in April. https://cnn.it/4ecOlJt

Getting rid of Trump is NOT going to solve Republicans, i.e. conservatives, whose lives are dedicated to deconstructing the government. That includes you, Mr. Conway. Trump just went a little farther than ya'all would have liked. People like you stacked the Supreme Court to give yourselves POWER.

The "the steep drop in border crossings, as a sign of the success of its deportation agenda" only means one thing -- their resources are focused on stripping the legal status from all those who are here legally -- they are not focused on tracking border crossings.

I too, wish no war. However, we have already crossed the rubicon with Trump. Not even the upcoming resolution to curtail Trump's war powers will disgorge Trump from his continued illegal march into an historic infamy. Nothing will stop this group from that march - even if and when Trump is out.

Trump’s bombing of Iran is reckless and a direct threat to American and Iranian lives. Launching military strikes without congressional authorization or evidence of an imminent threat is not strength. It is an abuse of power. Tell your Members of Congress to put an immediate stop to this war.

How many weapons has israel purchased from the United States in the last 10 years? The answer to that question, is the very reason US stockpiles are low, Israel buys them. The United States has been the primary seller of weapons to Israel. Complicit in ongoing genocides. SOTU religious war.

You're normalizing. 1st, state-run elections ARE nationalized, and you aren't the only one misusing the word. 2nd, the US is a federalist system. Trump is engaging in criminal sabotage and racketeering, NOT breaking "norms", he's literally breaking the law under our Constitution.

Senator Dick Durbin@durbin.senate.gov

President Trump said the quiet part out loud. He hopes to nationalize elections and shatter 250 years of norms around federalism, all so he can remain in power.

Two fixes the RNC wants states to use: "alternative government databases" and the ability to challenge a "mail-in early ballot BEFORE it is returned" - all to restrict voting. The RNC threw 9 fixes at the courts to see if any would stick a win in their column. One RNC loss so far, 8 to go.

Democracy Docket@democracydocket.com

WIN: The Arizona Supreme Court upheld the state's Election Procedures Manual, rejecting the RNC's attempt to block its enforcement. While the EPM can be used in upcoming contests, lower courts must still weigh the RNC's remaining challenges. https://bit.ly/4ooNskr
