this doesnt seem that paradoxical. surely wales would have much stronger immune systems than humans which means that when they get cancer its even rarer for it to grow into a tumor

I guess it's more that there's a range of canceriness that any species can survive and bigger species either evolved a way to reach that threshold or didn't survive long enough for us to start counting tumours

i am a university bio undergrad so im not an expert but i would wager than animals do get more cancerous cells proportional to their mass, and they present less cancer because stronger immune systems scale more with size than numbers for defective cells

Also last time I checked, Whales don't smoke...
