The line about "30-day, 60-day solutions" is fascinating because my understanding of what was meaningfully different about the Carter approach wasn't that he never closed an encampment, instead he would give such a long runway for residents & support workers that it softened the worst effects.

Scoop: In a private call with top officials, St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her lashed at requests to delay a homeless encampment sweep. She attributed her anger to “fuckery” being said about her in public, 3 officials told @axios.com . One state rep logged off in frustration. www.axios.com/local/twin-c...

Carter never pushed for encampment clearing until it became truly necessary for safety reasons (ex, fire hazards) and then they had time and as many resources as possible to get people prepared. It was never cruel. It honestly did not occur to me that Her would look at Mpls and go "yes, that"

Also, the mayor was a state rep until just a couple months ago? Did she champion legislation to help the homeless during those years? She was my rep all that time and I honestly have no idea! Her office's newsletters were mostly about nice photo ops she enjoyed.
