Alex Pretti's father: We wish Alex was alive. This administration has taken that away from us. What we've been treated to is cruelty. By Dan Rosen in the US Attorney's office, from the Attorney General Todd Blanche, who has ignored our letter begging for information. They've shielded Alex's killers.

i think it’s a genuine question if a sustainable society can be made up of people who, on average, are exposed to 100s of advertisements every day of their life.

I'm deeply skeptical of Ranked Choice, while equally inverse in my support for Run-Off

Brazil’s results tonight are a big endorsement for the idea that every country should have a second “are you you sure about that” election a couple weeks after the first one for the important stuff

One way I think RCV could be used to positive effect & potential upset in Saint Paul (less so Mpls) is by getting a popular item on the ballot referendum along with a municipal candidate running on the same issue along with some closely tied issues.

Anders@derzquist.net

It's a post script of the MN third party wave of the '90s-early'10s. But now everyone who does local electoralism remotely left-of-Klob does so via being cognizant of DFL endorsement process In Some Way*. In which case means the Caucuses & Primaries. So RCV instead platforms highly niche candidates.

Imagine running a referendum & candidate whose entire campaign is built around Saint Paul becoming an energy exporter for the rest of the Metro. Put solar on every possible surface, and openly defy the Xcel monopoly by hooking up residents to District Energy.

We are in an absolute golden age of e-ink devices and ebooks generally. Hardware is becoming more responsive to customer demands. Software is low effort open source. And if you're willing to tinker, ebooks are as accessible as MP3s were in the early '00s.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

If you're willing to do pretty basic "transfer files on desktop" tinkering, there are some pretty nifty things people have cooked up

I like Deep Space 9 because there are episodes where the A Plot is about a scarred people attempting to forge a lasting peace with former oppressors while the B Plot is about the cool captain doing damage control after his girlfriend talked about a nearby apartment and he responds "It's a big step!"

Apparently, some Houston voters are putting their I Voted stickers on the Lorenzo Salgado Araujo memorial. Stephen Miller is ALREADY trying to scapegoat others for losing whatever races they lose in Texas and elsewhere. This is a vivid testament that for some voters, his murder squad is the reason.

Also paging @derzquist.net earlier I spotted a young person sporting a St Paul jacket on the mean streets of Iowa City.

In Iowa for the weekend and the campaign ads are very much about trying to appeal to some centrist bipartisanship. Versus Minnesota where even when, say a Klob ad, isn't focused on the specific topics I would like to see, the premise is still around Trump/GOP are in power and doing bad things.

The GOP ads are equally deranged, minus one or two which are trying to obscure that they are GOP candidates

found out that my mother in law decided she was aggressively pro trans rights literally by going, I don't know anything about this but everyone who is against trans rights is also against free school lunch, the issue I know and care a lot about, so this must be the correct way to feel about this

i think it would be great with the holiday season right around the corner if we skipped the "how to avoid talking about politics with your kooky uncle" articles and got a bunch of more useful "how to talk to older family members about setting a family codeword in case of phishing attempts" articles

When you're supporting a politician from a distance it means you can encourage donations, maybe learn some things to apply locally. Whereas detracting a politician from a distance means you run the risk of going into an ever tightening feedback loop thinking that the next post will have an effect.

And "distance" here = too far away for you to realistically doorknock in the district during the average weekend

I've met many people who claim they always "tell it like it is" or something similar. Yet I've never witnessed any of them open a gift and tell the giver that it's underwhelming.

Good opportunity to remind folks to VOTE YES on the constitutional amendment on the ballot. It will increase funding to our schools without increasing taxes. If you leave it blank, you're voting no. www.kaxe.org/elections/20...

This year, federal agents terrorized our streets, killed our neighbors, and detained our children. Minnesotans were changed forever. Michele Tafoya thinks ICE treats kids “really well.” I think ICE should be ripped apart and replaced by a system grounded in dignity and due process.

I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.
