Okay, I just beat the game with my partner who played through it with me. This is one of the best games I've played by Koei Tecmo TBH. It's Nioh, but hyper accessible and an extremely clever re-visioning of Final Fantasy 1. The game uses FF3's job system to provide tons of gameplay variety.

I really want more games like this in FF. SoP doesn't fuck around with filler or wastes your time really at all. It's a streamlined, intense, focused experience that feels satisfying the whole way through. The game is challenging at times, but offers difficulty options. There's good QOL here too.

I see this game described as a Souls-like and while it does have attack/dodge/checkpoint mechanics, I really view this game more of a character action game like DMC that utilitizes some soulslike mechanics. It's also got a bit of Diablo in there. Basically it's Nioh. If you've played Nioh, you know.

I'll say it enhances the experience if you've played through FF1 at least once and understood the plot. The game is called "Final Fantasy Origin" after all! FF1 is pretty short for an RPG and I enjoyed the Pixel Remaster for what it's worth.
