I went to the Chch AI meetup yesterday and saw a talk titled 'The Doom Thesis' based on a book, 'If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies'. What stood out is LLM Doomerism seems to be the other side of the same LLM hype coin - ascribing significantly more capability/potential to LLMs than is warranted IMO

The AI Boomers/Doomers being two sides of the same hype coin is an idea talked about in 'Empire of AI' too www.goodreads.com/book/show/22... I wasn't sold on everything in that book, but that point was pretty convincing - reccomend if you've got spare time for ~500 pages! 😅
