hmm no there must be some other scientific and logical reason for brains to have consciousness but nothing else. lets just call it "its obvious" and move on, we dont have to bring souls into it

There are plenty of good reasons to say that without getting into religious nonsense but people don't even need to do that! You don't need to prove anything about consciousness to assert that a program unfolding at the instructions of the person who pushed a button isn't conscious

The outlandish claim there is that it *is* conscious, which people are free to assert if they want but the burden of proof is on them, not anyone else.
