A lot of liberal tech people who got very rich very fast in the 2000s and 2010s did a healthy and reasonable thing: tried to stay grounded and not let money change them And the thing conservatives understand deeply is the power of using money to create a force-multiplying ecosystem around you

SCOOP: So remember Dialog, Peter Thiel's private society that doesn't have a public website and no public list of members? I (along with a number of other journalists) have just been tipped off that embedded in the code of their closed off website there IS what seems to be a list of some members.

“Well he was a billionaire, of course he can do that” I can personally assure you this level arrives much earlier in your career than you think. Basically as soon as you are trusted to hire outside vendors and spend other people’s money, you begin to have the ability to fund your friends.

Don’t act like that’s unethical. If they can do the job you pay them for, you can change your friends’ lives. Your enemies are doing the same thing.

This holds true in virtually every human endeavor: if you go out of your way to put money in a friend’s pocket, they do not forget that. In fact you gain nearly unlimited reputational credit for putting yourself on the line in that way.

This is exactily what I have been thinking too. That one of things people fail to admit about things like this is that they exist because of how networking is conducted and structured

I would also say it doesnt even require money. Think even about how letters of recomendation are treated in academia and how that plays into these kind of enviroments
