I thought I would throw this out there. If anyone wants to ever ask me anything about my experience having a disability, my experinces as someone coming from a mixed cultural and immigrant background, or anything about how that affected things like my education or perspectives; please feel free too

I just want to point out something people should think about. If you have your phone claude linked and your desktop claude linked you can partly transfer photos between the two and interact on both sides. That is where we should both consider power but also potential leaks

Saying this cause I am having fun messing with some hand related stuff to experiment making some disability related art showcasing my hands but also could see how it could be abused

If anyone knows of an ethical GIS or drone related job they need people for, send them to Faine. It is important that we do what we can to help expand this field especially when there is a wide potential for civilian, public and general integration.

Faine Greenwood@faineg.com

Related: I’m still looking for leads and help on jobs, fellowships, and freelance contracts on drones, GIS, aid, disaster, OSINT, tech ethics, and journalism. I simply will not work for evil people and/or weapons manufacturers, which is also why I haven’t had paying work since Trump 2.0 began.

Drone tech has so many incredible applications for so many industries and if you want to make any sort of living you have to work for an illiterate Nazi pervert dweeb who collects erotic anime figurines.

Capitalism is not at its “end stage” and you would not be able to tell the difference between today’s chocolate and the chocolate of your childhood in a blind taste test. Everyone in your life only agrees because they all watch the same Instagram Reel slop you do.

Having tried to install Solar, one blocking point for average people will be the credit check , but corporations or the grid itself won't have to deal with this

Jan Rosenow@janrosenow.bsky.social

Solar has overtaken nuclear. A decade ago it supplied 1% of the world's power. In 2025 it met three quarters of global demand growth. Almost nobody saw it coming. I spoke to Jocelyn Timperley at BBC Future about why. www.bbc.co.uk/future/artic...

Honestly, I get why some anthropologists are concerned about the enforcement of AI in different spaces as afterall there is always questions about how such changes enable or disempower the rights of different groups. But I also worry when anthropologist(and other academics) are ignoring voices that

suggest some aspect of it is relevent to their experince likely often in a way distinct from the anglospheric understanding or ablebodied understanding. Shouldn't we put our lenses to exploring how and why these different cultures think about things in different ways too including as activism

If we are confusing "activist academia" with just the anglocentric take on the matter while saying we are defending other groups, are we really doing that?

This is a salutary reminder to us all that the best protection for archaeology and heritage is to stimulate interest and excitement among voters. Without that ignorant and vicious politicians can destroy anything they want to.

I admit I am increasingly interested in engaging with the human and cultural oriented jobs AI labs are beginingto have such as Human Data Operations Manager. There is a noticable shift amongst different labs of what jobs are being offered in this respect and I am intrigued

I think something to consider about the discussions around helium shortage is that overextraction of reserves has geological consequences of its own. That is one of the more behind the scenes concerns earth scientists often worry about when discussing it not just the loss of materials alone

They aren't losing their ability to do mathematics, write software, or create art. Nobody is stopping them from doing this! They're losing the exclusivity of that ability and *thats what they actually valued*

Thas why they just scream lies about AI because they dont want to admit that they are afraid a brown person, a disabled person, a trans person their system already selected out can pick up these tools and do knowledge work too without their approval.

Knowledge gatekeepers want to keep their insular spaces free of anyone who isnt like them. This sentiment is repeated in a lot of fields and what the core of the objection boils down to when you strip away the rhetoric they use.

On October 7, the Association for Human Mathematics declared: "Mathematicians did not ask for this work to be done." Since when did mathematical discovery require permission from mathematicians? Theres the gatekeeping hubris right there. You arent in the club, your work doesnt count.

Someone without a computer science degree, an elite education, or professional connections can now produce useful software at a scale and speed thats mind bending. Knowledge priesthoods hate this!

A lot of anti AI sentiment is libidnal rage that the Other now has a ladder they cant pull up. That AI makes something possible for someone who wasn't supposed to be able to do it.

SE Gyges@segyges.bsky.social

being anti AI is a luxury belief only available to first world people, especially Americans imagine how important machine translation is for people whose first languages aren't that common

Just a big reminder this will affect disabled people too because they also won't be able to tell the difference between transcription for the same reasons #disabledsky

r/opensource is banning all mention of projects that use AI. let’s dive in and see what else they are banning. …ah. www.reddit.com/r/opensource...

I just had a true moment of realize of dissonance of how different my way of thinking is from other people. I just saw someone complaining about what function is there in being able to 3d model an image of jam while I realizw that also describes the exact project I have wanted to do with cells

Like the normal person complains about features that I want added because I find them useful for other more complex tasks including some accessibility ones. That is really often the separation between people on some of these things. If they realize how something can have a usage

this is why disclosure is not a selling point, if you're curious

Casey S. Pumpkins 🎃@caseyexplosion.bsky.social

It always comes back to this for me; if AI was so good, such a disclosure would be a selling point. If AI was everything these slop jockeys said it was, they should be proud to let people know their game was AI made. But the proof is in the pudding, and they can't stand that people don't want it.

Rune reposted

AI can produce slop (fucking stop it!). It can also be an accessibility tool for non-native speakers and neurodivergent people. If you reject everything AI touches without reckoning with that, you should know how privileged and exclusionary you come across.

ethan, etc.@system.gay

r/opensource banning non-english speakers because "we can't tell the difference between ai slop and ai translation" is... uh... yeah. a choice.

this was before the transformer, before the datacenter boom, but was absolutely AI technology being used in a transformative way to directly provide accessibility to people who needed it people literally won't know what AI has actually enabled in their lives until it's gone

back in 2017 i worked for a company that did live phone call transcription for deaf and hard of hearing people the only possible way to keep up with the rate at which some people spoke was to speak at the same speed so that AI could pick up what we said we even had to keep it trained to our voice!

You know what is great at undermining these labs you hate? OPEN MODELS The whole reason China is investing so much in them is to undercut the financial sustainability of American closed AI labs

This sort of attitude leads to marginalized technologists being singled out for massive abuse for not putting ourselves at a deliberate disadvantage in a field that already discriminates against us

Every students should come out of science class with the knowledge that shakything makes thing clean easier Lol xd

I think unfortunately one of the biggest underreported impacts of the pandemic and years surrounding it is how many students even those regularly attending college got their education delayed simply because the classes they needed weren't available that term. People mention remoteness but not this

Yet observing many peers and individuals I knows college transcripts, this was a big impact especially for many people who went to community college where the resources were even more problematic

The way I approach game dev with AI is treating myself as the director. It’s my responsibility to create and shape a compelling vision and give a lot of feedback to bring things in line with that vision. I’m delegating work to AI in the same way a traditional studio would to humans

A lot of people like this work from the assumption that, if AI was used in development, there is necessarily no human effort involved. You can come up with endearing references and fun Easter eggs and still use AI.
