a thing that always bothered me about AI speech (/ claudese / algorithmese) is that it always posits itself in contradiction to something else. it would not ever occur to me "peaceful protest" on a sign for a peaceful protest. that a protest is going to be non-violent has mostly been a given.

another way of putting this is that LLMs have severe not-like-the-other-girls syndrome. all text assumes you will always be cynical towards it, and revels in your cynicism of the category as a whole. i don't know how this came to be and don't remember seeing it pre-AI.

while it posits itself in contrast to something worse, it never acknowledges that this worse thing exists. it waves its hands and assumes you know. in many cases, you do know. but why the coded language? maybe it's about exclusive connection. to me it comes off as an idyllic promise.

for all the anthropomorphism about the technology as a hazardous scheming vizier, its language sounds more like a groveling, insecure, and emasculated person in how frequently it passive-aggressively clings to your cynicism about the status quo to justify its (its owner's product's) values
