my headcanon is that the krillion dev is some kind of palantir / fbi RLHF asset because why the hell else would you make shit like this

a thing that always bothered me about AI speech (/ claudese / algorithmese) is that it always posits itself in contradiction to something else. it would not ever occur to me "peaceful protest" on a sign for a peaceful protest. that a protest is going to be non-violent has mostly been a given.

while it posits itself in contrast to something worse, it never acknowledges that this worse thing exists. it waves its hands and assumes you know. in many cases, you do know. but why the coded language? maybe it's about exclusive connection. to me it comes off as an idyllic promise.

for all the anthropomorphism about the technology as a hazardous scheming vizier, its language sounds more like a groveling, insecure, and emasculated person in how frequently it passive-aggressively clings to your cynicism about the status quo to justify its (its owner's product's) values

another way of putting this is that LLMs have severe not-like-the-other-girls syndrome. all text assumes you will always be cynical towards it, and revels in your cynicism of the category as a whole. i don't know how this came to be and don't remember seeing it pre-AI.

someone please tell the somewhat dim folks at Palo Alto what a user agent is. also to not bombard my website thanks.

contrary to popular belief, there is a thing such as too much packaging. not the first time amazon has cursed me to four layers of tape that can't be torn by hand. the burden is whatever, but they put a fragile paper packaged product tightly packed touching the tape.

well-read business prof debating a philosophy prof: "deriving the meaning of life is an unattainable goal with no tangible conclusion. more wise, i suggest, would be something more objective -- such as deriving the meaning of life for about 1400 people or so"

``` <special-form 'typing.Generic'>... On Python 3.12 and newer, generic classes implicitly inherit from... On older versions of Python, however, generic classes have to explicitly inherit from Generic. ``` i am albanian type checker because of poor technology you have to declare generics yourself
after some trial and error (and a few months of sitting on my ass), i finally made string fuzzing for my discord bot not / less ass.
i scanned through the websites of all accredited .in domain registrars in india and 30% of them are dead sites, situated outside the country, or acquired by someone else
a troubling fixture of 2010s/20s era software development is the conflation of libre and gratis. corporate employees translate "open source" as "free to use", inconsiderate of the labour involved in producing such a thing. open source cannot be seen as an infinite well to draw water from.
it's not just abuse though. OSS is often the exemplar of its category, see Grafana and such. much can be learnt from referring to their code, and many stories of technical, management, and human merit are lost in our de-human-isation of OSS. we ignore the hands that feed us at our own peril.
as part of larger degoogling endeavours, I've migrated my email to migadu mail. their webmail client looks neat, they're not throwing upsells for $AI_TOOL in my face all the time, and i don't have to worry about big brother's ad trackers. though, my first mail to a google acc went straight to spam.
if all works well, i'll be subscribing to their micro plan and moving my other 5 or so accounts on there as well. i like that it doesn't abstract away (all) the complexities of email, so you have to set up your DNS records yourself and what not.
it's weird how much the current day feels like 2010. i don't have confidence in ecommerce because of a billion dropshippers, computers have popups everywhere, browsers and editors are fighting against me. who will be the next deshittifiers? god knows.
