I love Lupin III in all its forms but Part 2 is the best because it's categorically stupidest. I don't want violent pulp, I want Lupin finding out that Jesus had a twin sister who's a vampire. Perfection.

I also love Lupin III in all its forms, but when I told my grandmother (a Miyazaki fan) about the Castle of Cagliostro, her response to learning about Lupin III was to remark, "Ah, yes. I knew his grandfather." And now I have ALSO read the books to get to know his grandfather.

You COULD say that Lupin also has an "ancestor" in Autolycus, from mythology but also Xena. That version has a green coat and a romantic entanglement named "Luscious," you cannot convince me that wasn't at least a little bit of an homage. And then of course there are all the live action Lupins...

Something I love about Lupin is that he is truly everywhere. He breaks into stories and pilfers storyworlds just by his nature. If Lupin the First could go up against Herlock Sholmes, there's no feasible claim to literary purity there. He exists to be fun as much as anything else.
