NEW: This church teaches that once an abuser is forgiven, anyone who speaks about the wrongdoing can be accused of having an unforgiving heart. The burden of sin would shift from the person who committed the act to the person who won’t let the matter rest. W/ @startribune.com

propublica.orgIn This Church, Child Sexual Abuse Has Gone Unchecked for So Long That It Spans GenerationsThe church's culture of forgiving and forgetting sins has absolved abusers and silenced victims across the country.

Not that uncommon in evangelical ‘sects’. Jehovah’s Witnesses are rife with it, when convenient. Rape a child, get forgiven. Be the victim, get disfellowshipped. Always kept quiet as an ‘internal matter’. Tax churches as 501(c) 3, watch the grifters and abusers scatter.

Taxation won't remove abusers. Just look at the GOP. Taxed and still abusing. I wish I could say sunshine fixes the issue, but, again, look at the GOP. Apparently the only fix is dissolution and removing predators from easily accessible prey.

It’s not the taxes per se, it’s that 501(c)3s have to: - argue that they are a force for the greater societal good, with evidence of their works - open their accounting for review That would remove much of the cover for the grifters in charge, who in turn provide cover for the abusers.

Congregations that legitimately do good work would still qualify, those that are tax shelters and abuse engines would not. No more assumption of good works via the label ‘church’.
