Awful results in Alberta, where voters had the literacy to vote overwhelmingly against separation but not to toss out the 5 racist immigration red herrings, which now get weaponized by provinces, police, & the feds to crack down even harder. www.jurist.org/commentary/2...

Euan, keep in mind that the public debate focused on the Seperation question. Danielle ran ads using public money for months pushing people to vote yes on the other questions. These ads ran unopposed with no others ads promoting voting no. This Albertan is surprised how much people voted no.

You are telling me that either people voted without reading the questions or that people knew and voted anyway and both are political illiteracy in my books.

No, just saying question 10 took all the oxygen and energy and debate. From my perspective, the questions on immigration are borderline racist considering how many first generation immigrants we have in Alberta, and how they have contributed to the economic vibrancy of the province.

“83 percent of first-quarter 2026 removals were failed refugee claimants rather than criminals… [CBSA] tip line… generating 47,900 reports in 2025... echoes of the early US crackdown under Trump, which likewise began with non-criminal immigration violations…” Snitch line about to ring off the hook.

Alberta wants its citizens behaving like those in Quebec, where 55 percent of deportations are currently happening, many after first contact and most for the crime of being a refugee, usually escaping a place affected by Canadian climate change, mining interests, foreign policy, or all.

I grew up in Alberta ... so glad I got out, because so many people there think Jesus was a white cowboy. The most racist of them all forget their parents, grandparents, great-grandparents were immigrants. I am an immigrant, can't tolerate the racists. We are all people.

What do you think the results would be if the same questions were put to other provinces? Saskatchewan? Ontario? Quebec?

The Russians have perfected the scapegoating of immigrants. Their propaganda & tactics on immigration are highly effective. This will continue to grow unless the propaganda can be stopped. Ukraine needs to win this war.

This is mostly a homegrown issue. The Liberals and the Conservatives have both used immigrants, specifically refugees, as scapegoats. We can't solve this unless we recognize that the problem is coming from inside the country and reinforced by our two major political parties.

Nothing Russia does will be more impactful than our own political parties demonizing immigrants. We will not solve this problem unless we acknowledge that it's not just a Russian Psyop, that anti immigrant rhetoric is common and it's promoted by the two largest parties.
