🧵 Why are we suing the Calgary Police? It’s hard to describe what happens to you physiologically while being smeared in public by powerful people. It’s a mix of uncertainty, fear, frustration, rage, indignation, and anguish, on a thick layer of pity — for self and others you know are in it, too. 1/

BC residents should learn that their likely incoming premier Aaron Gunn drove much of the violent anti-homeless, anti-drug user rhetoric whipped up in the last few years in BC and nationally, which came immediately after Gunn made Vancouver is Dying with the help of the Alberta government.

and with the help of Vancouver police, who gave interviews as officers but were not subject to freedom of information requests because they used their personal phones to correspond with Gunn during the film’s production — ask @jameswsthomson.com

That is beyond the pale. I work at an addiction medicine clinic as part of a hospital and we literally do everything we can to make care as low-barrier and accesible as possible. Making it harder for people who are already struggling to access life saving meds is evil.

I’m surprised that Regenstreif is platformed by the OMA (who value integrity and inclusivity) despite being an anti trans activist who’s published misinformation on trans issues with her colleagues from Florida.

NEW: Three years after a notorious open letter, a small group of conflicted addiction doctors appears to be influencing prescribed safe supply policy again. This time, they seem to be taking aim at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. READ & SIGN: drugdatadecoded.ca/meet-the-phy...

After more than 10% of polling stations have been counted, Lula is given a 92% chance to win and is expected to win by a 4% margin, despite the attempts of pro-Bolsonaro politicians and businessmen to keep Lula supporters from voting. If true, this would be another amazing comeback by Lula.

and now we are stuck with a new garbage premier. this one is worse, thanks province that is fine with getting sucked into vitriolic white supremacist hate spirals against anyone who is disabled, a drug user, trans, homeless, an immigrant, Indigenous or some combination of the above!

In British Columbia there is the NDP and the anti-NDP. The latter change their name every few decades. These guys haven't been out of power a decade.

imagine your legacy being using your political career to undermine your entire pre-politics career just so you can make the most humiliating blunder and lose to a party that was on the verge of collapse

Something big has been happening this week, and with all the news happening, you probably didn’t hear about it. MPs from every federal party except the Liberals and Conservatives have banded together — and they’re sounding the alarm about Carney's destructive policies:

Fuck David Eby. The only tiny consolation here is at least he'll go down in history as one of the greatest boneheads Canadian politics ever produced. He'll be a cautionary tale. Anytime a charmless jackass shoots themself in the foot, they'll be pulling an Eby.

idk that it's all that significant that is the first "Conservative" government since 1928, when our last conservative government ended in 2017. we traded one conservative party for another

Disastrous, but this is BC’s tangible shift right under the NDP coming due. Pro-police, anti-harm reduction messaging has been driving politics in that province for years. The NDP has folded to it each time. Now BC learns what it’s like to live under the UCP.

Tonight David Eby is going to resign, and then hand the province over to a group dedicated to screwing over First Nations. So seriously, f*ck him, his ego and greed for doing this, and wasting all our time for the next 4 years, fighting them.

Euan Thomson reposted

Excuse me? Eby’s campaign fail is cos he’s too smart and we’re too thick to understand legislative dysfunction? That’s some very “my biggest flaw is that I’m a perfectionist” energy, I hate it.

Awful results in Alberta, where voters had the literacy to vote overwhelmingly against separation but not to toss out the 5 racist immigration red herrings, which now get weaponized by provinces, police, & the feds to crack down even harder. www.jurist.org/commentary/2...

“83 percent of first-quarter 2026 removals were failed refugee claimants rather than criminals… [CBSA] tip line… generating 47,900 reports in 2025... echoes of the early US crackdown under Trump, which likewise began with non-criminal immigration violations…” Snitch line about to ring off the hook.

Alberta wants its citizens behaving like those in Quebec, where 55 percent of deportations are currently happening, many after first contact and most for the crime of being a refugee, usually escaping a place affected by Canadian climate change, mining interests, foreign policy, or all.

This is a long but interesting read: "The fundamental question is therefore not whether Canada should have fewer immigrants. It is whether the people who were brought into a dysfunctional system should be made to pay for the failures of the governments and institutions that built it."

Obviously I’m unhappy about Duncan but watching the king of shitty self-serving journalism try to score points off it is too much. I’m proud to have supported a friend who asked for help even on false pretences. I would do it again 1,000X.

Of interest, not quite two months before getting singled out by Jesse, I declined an interview on Canadaland. (Note this is not an allegation of hate speech — I am using the term hate in its informal definition.)

David Eby just said he’s planning to expand drug jails to all regions of BC, “so people can get the help they need, even if they can’t ask for it.” Lowen is the only one talking any sense on public safety: housing, basic needs, safe supply, harm reduction. Eby is lost.

But she still needs to stare straight into the camera and explain to BC’s billionaires how she’s going to wring them out for every penny they’ve stolen from workers.

This appears to be a move to funnel everyone through privatized Navigation Centres, where the ministry has spent nearly 3 years centralizing personal information of the people who will be the first targets of involuntary abstinence detainments set to begin in 2027.

The Breakdown AB@thebreakdownab.bsky.social

From the DM’s… Recovery Alberta previously had a program to help people navigating recovery get ID. According to this, that program has now been ended. Because why make it easier for folks trying to get sober? #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

When I say “Navigation Centres are privatized,” I mean there is a company posted at the entrance recruiting people to private rehabs, including the one it runs. That company has received $72 million in AB provincial funding and its ownership is personally connected to the premier’s former CoS.
