There's a video game coming out which used generative AI to make assets but is also "protected by Denuvo" which is just such a perfect encapsulation of how intellectual property law works and who it is for

Anything AI generated cannot be legally copyrighted and thus would be considered public domain. So games using AI generated art shouldn't be able to change money, let alone use DRM.

By this logic a whole movie would have to be public domain just because they used public domain images in it. AI has many issues and it is valid to be annoyed about it but this is a silly take.

I don't understand this recurring claim because transformative works based on public domain works are created all the time. Steamboat Willie is in the public domain but "Screamboat" (2025) is not. Similarly AI generated assets within a video game are probs not copyrightable but the game surely is

Games are generally not protected by ©. They fall under different categories *depending on the game* but usually the graphics, sound and code (assets) are protected but anyone can make a similar game using different assets. Public domain works stay public domain and only edits are protected..

In fact, I am pretty sure that you could take an entirely public domain work and protect it with the DMCA, because the DMCA is framed as being about circumvention mechanisms rather then the work itself. The law doesn't care what the protected item is. Because intellectual property law is broken
