Wtf on kafkaesque parallel, frontend awfulness or both? 😉 I don't want to sound clickbaity here, but I imagine the commentary on that could be a worthy discussion if made into a solid, non-emotional panel on a conference led with good speakers from various backgrounds.

Not clickbaity at all to me 😉 Wtf on yet another folk bashing what they probably lack knowledge/experience in. (too many points relate to backend/architecture to consider him a "frontend engineer"). I despise frontend devs bashing backend - and vice versa - equally the same. Learn first...

Number one reason to have "us and them" in terms of frontend and backend engineers? Our way or your way (or the highway)? Bashing the other side. Comparing any platform to Kafkaesque (the author, not Apache kafka 😛) is just dumb. I mean it. Feel free to bash me 😛

I wouldn't dare bashing that, especially when I sit firmly in the Swiss army knife, T-shape, full-stack, close co-op between frontend/backend or call-it-whatever camp where such divisions are simply and always counterproductive.

Sounds like a good environment 👍 As a rule of thumb I respect people who possess the knowledge I'm lacking (if incompetence, then at least a conscious one).

I must mention @oskardudycz.bsky.social here: an extraordinarily knowledgeable dude. Yet, he seems to be totally free of any technical prejudice. Open-minded. If something really is a neat solution, he states that backend (in general) should pick it up from frontend. Pure opposite of ignorance.

Likewise. And I also think the whole debate is always very context dependent which is often missed or misunderstood. There are valid reasons why teams are built differently for different purposes, products and at different companies. And yet so many apples poke almost religiously at oranges.

Sure, I agree on that sentiment in full. Bashing not backed with experience is just bollocks whatever the area. But it's not without reason that frontend is quite a bit more polarizing atm than it was few years back, which by itself is an interesting phenomenon to think about.

Everything there is for a reason. The reading could be tech-related, business-related, people-, etc... Anyway bashing reduces one's urge to actually understand the context to fully understand why something is not done otherwise. "I'd rather have questions that can't be answered [...]"

Example: Is js a really crappy language? Of course. Could there be a better alternative then? Well... consider major big tech players... Most of them would force a different alternative... Think about standardizing stuff... Think about all the conflicts of interests... 1/2

You'd need to go through a similar extremely long process of unification across highly unfriendly competitive companies owning that process. "oh look js is stupid" makes one not think about the "why" 🤷 2/2
