PSA: This is my primary Bluesky account. Thus, expect an eclectic mix of content on wine & software engineering — two of my main areas of interest — sprinkled with classical music, running, travels and general mumbling. Welcome!

Grabenwerkstatt is Wachau like no other. Franz and Michael are making electric, laser-sharp Grüners and Rieslings in the harsh Spitzer Graben out of old vines. Hands-off, tense, speaking of their origin, utterly thrilling.

mati.wineGrabenwerkstatt is Wachau like no otherI still pretty vividly remember my first experience with wines from Austria’s Wachau valley some 11 years ago. A couple of Smaragds from F.X. Pichler, one of the top names in the region, all coming fr...

8 sparklings, 4 countries. Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, and the UK. This likely was one of the first if not the first tasting of these wines in Poland. Thanks to SPOT. for hosting the event! I'm looking forward to exploring this topic with the Polish audience more. There's more to tell.

I'm thrilled to soon present two masterclasses on cool climate sparklings, exploring wines from Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK and — of course! — the Polish ones. Quite likely for the first time in Poland. And quite likely not the last. The first bottles are here already, more to come!

The promise of AI chat assistants: they solve 90% of the problems users have (by looking up the docs and telling them) My reality: need to spend 10 minutes trying to get to a human, to solve an issue I need customer support to look into Around minute 8 I sign up to a competitor

In an unprecedented move, the Académie Internationale du Vin (AIV) is speaking out publicly against the threat of what it calls the “denormalisation” of wine initiated by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in an open letter to the heads of government of all United Nations member states.

We ordered a bottle of Champagne. The staff flocked to our table to witness - "noone ever buys it", they said. "I never opened one, can I do it?", another waiter seconded. Little stories like this can make a place memorable, even if for the strangest of reasons. It was a lovely evening.

A group of four Polish wineries (Turnau, Jassa, Julo and Vogard) has just announced submitting the paperwork toward establishing the first Polish PGI for wines of the Lower Oder Valley (Dolina Dolnej Odry). This has been on the grapevine for a while now, but apparently is now in the motion.

Once upon a time, a group of winemakers in Chile decided to create their own appellation of sorts. It changed Chilean wine forever. A look back at the pioneering work of VIGNO, and the current crop of world-class Carignans they are making: www.vinography.com/2... #winethreads

This is pure genius in its simplicity. Never thought of using a lock screen for that!

It's 2025 and I'm back to a dilemma I had in 2022. Why neither AMD nor Intel comes even remotely close to Apple's M series with the battery life to power ratio. I DON'T WANT A MAC. But I can no longer stand the mediocrity ThinkPads have become ☹️ Will that ever change?...

En route for grading. 4997 words, 32 pages, and almost 16 hours of interviews with winemakers, sommeliers, shop owners, and journalists over the past few months. It's been spinning my wheels for a while over the past few months, but it was really satisfying to pull this off. Now let's wait and see.

Went from "oh no, I will never write so many words" into "oh no, I don't know what to cut anymore" in an instant. The circle of life of research paper writing. Every. Time.

Last week we had the pleasure of celebrating this years WSET students 🧑‍🎓 Every year we proudly sponsor three of the students, where we recognise their dedication to studying - this year Rebecca Miles-Steiner, Philip McDaniel and Sihun Oh are our winners 🍷🎉

OSes not informing about the estimated time to install updates before user agrees to start is such a huge UX fail. 30 minutes and counting, and I'm stuck with work to do. Should've known better not to start...

It’s my 25th Vinitaly 🇮🇹 Yes it’s overcrowded, frantic, expensive and at times, preposterous. But boy do I absolutely love it. It’s so quintessentially Italian, bursting at the seams with spontaneous joie de vivre, honest hedonism, and human warmth. When I die, I want my ashes scattered here.

It never stops to amaze me how proper high-speed trains make travel so seamless and desirable. I for sure know I would travel so much more if such level of service was more widely available.

I've eaten many great steaks in my life, but boy, Fiorentina is really something else. Wow. Went down really well with a bottle of Villa Rosa Ribaldoni Chianti Classico 2020.

Dr Matthew Green’s Medieval Wine Tour of London is an intoxicating romp through the city’s oenological past, writes James Bayley, with just the right amount of alcohol to make medieval hygiene standards seem tolerable.
