Question for anyone who makes things (professionally or personally or somewhere in between): What would you do if you had a whole year, fully funded, with the one requirement that you NOT make anything for public consumption during that year?

I don't know that I would take that offer. I create and share because I enjoy it. I mean, the money would be nice, but that's basically just the same as taking a high-paying job that leaves no free time.

The thought experiment is intended to frame what would you do for you & those you love, without “progress” or “improvement” required. You can share among friends in this frame. It’s about leisure & making outside of even the remote tie to capital that comes from doing stuff in public or “prep.”

Yes, but I reject it as a devil's bargain. I would go stir crazy, like being locked in a house (even a cozy house) for a year. I could give up the commercial part. Everything I create will be shared freely? Ok, that's just patronage, no problem. But nothing can ever be publicly shared? No.
