If you’ve seen the ep, you’ll understand when I say I had my own “Grief Popcorn” moment yesterday. My colleague & friend the brilliant @mistykrueger.bsky.social died yesterday morning. They were a fierce & funny teacher & scholar of Austen, pop culture, & a searing memoirist. mistykrueger.com

I am unbelievably touched that @dropout.tv titled my @dimension20.dropout.tv Adventuring Academy episode “A Duty of Care”

I’m overwhelmed today, but I want to circle back in a while to share the links to everyone & everything I cited. More soon.

I am the product of so many people who I’ve had the privilege of thinking & laughing alongside. I have lost too many too young. Misty was in my 18C community from jump, a “cousin” from a brilliant cohort of minds. Misty was a public scholar, a lover of Austen’s fingerprints all over pop culture.

To rewatch Brennan & I talk about the community & friendship that can (but doesn’t always) emerge among colleagues hit differently yesterday, after weeks of sitting in virtual vigil as Misty’s treatments took a turn, then a spike of hope, then hospice. I am grateful for how our people came together.

I had forgotten Brennan’s very personal story on this episode, & I’m struck anew by the ways that anecdote is shaped by both the gifts & traps of tech. I can never say the internet was a mistake, because it meant I could tell my friend what they meant to me, how much I loved them, before the end.
