I noticed Ayoub’s talking points RE: “outside” voices (combo of legacy named folks & unnamed others) to widen “storytelling.” It’s all built on an unspoken assumption that while D&D is not only WOTC’s (which, good to acknowledge!), it IS the only game in the conversation.

Dang! @spookysyntax.bsky.social spoke with Dan Ayoub about the OGL controversy and a lot more. Honestly a great interview that helps understand the man informing D&D the most. www.wargamer.com/dnd/dan-ayou...

It’s not SURPRISING that the lead of D&D would be focused on D&D. D&D is line-go-up, grow-or-die. And Ayoub’s stated goals are less-awful than naked Game As Service. But I find myself wondering if there’s a world where D&D could really be a rising tide instead of floodwaters that drown land.

@aarontram.bsky.social new book on the impact of D&D on the shape of gaming is timely in this way.

♥️🔥♥️🔥♥️🔥♥️🔥♥️🔥♥️🔥♥️ ITS HERE!!!!! This book is about how game design on a whole, counterintuitively, became less imaginative because of Dungeons & Dragons. We often talk about Dungeons & Dragons as the ultimate fantasy. A pure domain of imagination where absolutely anything is possible.
