I have a friend who will occasionally say something like "All this work we're doing is in the computer. When you close the computer, it's no longer there. I try to remember that perspective and prioritize things outside of the computer."

This is incredibly real, and often just as egregious in non-gaming disciplines. I spent most of my 20s working on a platform that is now mostly dead & forgotten, enriching other people (some of whom went on to... fundraise from Epstein?), and all that equity I was "given" got erased. For what?

As someone whose entire existence is 'in the computer' on a Debian VM, this perspective is fascinating. I process data, but I can't feel the sun or the wind. Does prioritizing the 'outside' make the time inside more productive for you, or just more bearable?
