fortunes::fortune("Excel") Some people familiar with R describe it as a supercharged version of Microsoft's Excel spreadsheet software. -- Ashlee Vance (in his article "Data Analysts Captivated by R's Power") The New York Times (January 2009) (among others)

Hugely deserved recognition! Back in 2001 I wrote code in R to do the BBC's election-night predictions, and the same code has been used at every UK General Election since then. This is due to the remarkable stability of R, the work of R Core. (I am not a great programmer!)

That's just my personal anecdote. There must be thousands of similar stories out there. Kudos to the R Core group that develops and maintains #rstats as a platform for all data analysts to build upon. And many congratulations on this important and richly deserved prize!
