New CRAN Policy revision just dropped (per my cronjob posting only to @CRANPolicyWatch@fosstodon.org) and now I want to of course know which #Rstats package at CRAN was the offender 🤯

Today marks five years that I have lived in Chicago. What that means, thanks to the vagaries of American immigration law, is that it is almost time to go home to London, where I will be covering Europe. It's been a time. I have learned a lot. I figured I'd write a bunch of it down:

First time using this (I don’t know how I haven’t come across r2u before) - this is a lifesaver. Thanks so much for making this

The President of the United States, in front of a crowd of his supporters, during a televised rally, admits to a Quid Pro Quo pardon, which is a felony and impeachable offence. And absolutely nothing will happen, because his party, which controls congress, are fascist collaborators and sycophants.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

moments after saying he didn't expect anything in exchange for pardoning Cueller, Trump admits "I guess I expected maybe he wouldn't run or maybe he'd run as a Republican"

And before people jump at my throat: _implementing_ something like this is damn difficult because the whole 'age verification' complex is another nightmare online (and sufficient discussion around it). So maybe this is just too simple. Genie, bottle, and all that.

🚨 After 20 years of service, the R-Forge code-sharing platform will be retired. #rstats Timeline: - Until end of 2026: Normal operations. - Jan 2027: Switch to read-only, but SVN continues to work. - Jan 2028: SVN also read-only. Reason: The underlying FusionForge software is no longer maintained.

One Hundred Million binaries served (104.9 to be exact). Over Eleven Million last month alone. Serving amd64 and arm64 #Rstats CRAN package binaries for three Ubuntu LTS releases. #r2u: Fast. Easy. Reliable. Pick all three.

#rstats 4.6.2 "Diversified Portfolio" scheduled for October 29. Full schedule on developer.r-project.org (or the svn if you're impatient.)

"Why we cannot have nice things." Plus: Steive Wonder graces us four unreleased songs. They are amazing. But I already said that it is Stevie. Minus: YouTube disgraces it by placing an ad at each of the three transitions. Awful.

Having just started teaching new undergraduates at uni, I think we're missing a key issue in the debate about AI: these kids do not know how *not* to use AI, full stop. We assume they are 'digital natives' but they are not and a Google Scholar search is as alien to them as an archival card-index.

Someone needs to explain to Trump that the worse Republicans do in the midterms, the better it looks for him. Just goes to show the party is utterly lost without him on the ballot! He’s literally the only Republican who has the juice. (Natalie, if you see this, please print and share.)
